Imperiale Racing: Double Top 10 Debut in CIGT Sprint Season Opener at Imola
The opening round of the Italian GT Sprint Championship at Imola concludes with the #85 Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 consistently at the sharp end of the field, securing 10th place in Race 1 and 9th in Race 2. In a high-level competitive environment, Lautaro de la Iglesia and Phillippe Denes showed character and speed, bringing home valuable points in both races.
Qualifying: a Battle Against the Clock
Driver feeling with the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 was immediately excellent. Lautaro de la Iglesia was entrusted with Qualifying 1, while Phillippe Denes took charge of Qualifying 2. Two red flags in the first session and one in the second curtailed flying lap attempts, requiring the crew to start from further back on the grid. This starting position dictated an all-out attack strategy to showcase the car’s true pace.
Race 1: recovery and determination
At the start of Race 1, Lautaro de la Iglesia handled his absolute GT3 debut with poise. On the opening lap, contact between other cars caused damage to the front of our car, affecting its on-track performance. During the driver change, Phillippe Denes drove with authority: with the car damaged and in heavy traffic, he set the second-fastest lap overall during his stint. This effort earned a well-deserved 10th-place finish.
Race 2: skillful management and progression to P9
On Sunday, Phillippe Denes managed the first half of Race 2 with skill, fending off numerous attacks and confidently maintaining his position. Following a perfect pit stop by the team, de la Iglesia completed the work, bringing the car home in 9th place overall. The result of this first seasonal event is positive, with driver competitiveness growing exponentially.
