Good weekend for Imperiale Racing at Mugello in the Campionato Italiano Gran Turismo Endurance
15.07.2024 – The Mugello weekend, which hosted the second round of the Campionato Italiano Gran Turismo Endurance, ended with an AM class podium.
The Mirandola-based team lined up two Lamborghini Huracàn GT3 EVO2 at the start: the #85 competed in the PRO-AM class with Alessio Deledda (IT), Kevin Gilardoni (CH) and Robin Rogalski (POL), while the #54 was entrusted to Giuseppe Fascicolo (IT), Alex Bowen (BLZ) and Dmitry Gvazava (KGZ), in the AM class.
The #54 crew’s weekend had kicked off with Friday morning’s free practice, which ended in fourth in the AM class with a time of 1’51″181, a time improved in the second session: 1’49″855 was worth first in class and tenth overall. After the third practice session, which finished in 1’51″327 and in third place in its class, the team was confident of being able to fight for the podium, having confirmed the speed it had already expressed in the first round at Vallelunga.
The first qualifying session had seen Fascicolo finish in 1’52″289, while Gvazava had stopped the clock at 1’49″751 in the second window. The third and final session had seen a further improvement in the time set, a time lowered by Bowen to 1’49″065. The combination of the three times allowed them to start from third place in their class. Over the course of the race, the crew battled long and hard to improve their starting position, even managing to cross the 100′ mark in first place in class, collecting valuable championship points. The remainder of the race saw them fight again to maintain their position: they did not actually manage to do so, but nonetheless brought home their first podium finish of the season.
The #85 Lamborghini had started its weekend with a time of 1’50″694 in the first free practice session, which was improved to a 1’48″635 in the second: that time was also worth fourth place in the overall standings. In the third session, Deledda, Gilardoni and Rogalski had set a time of 1’52″400, showing that they could play their cards both in terms of qualifying and ahead of the race.
Qualifying had begun with a time of 1’48″553 set by Rogalski, while Deledda had managed to stop the clock at 1’48″870. The best time set by the crew, however, was that of Gilardoni, who set the benchmark for the #85 to an excellent 1’47″611. The combination of the three times had guaranteed them the right to start from tenth overall and fourth in the PRO-AM class on the grid. The race was extremely close, with the entire crew engaging in a long fight that also saw them in the running for third place. After closing the first 100′ of the race in sixth position, the three continued to fight and managed to obtain another position: they finished fifth in class.
Elena Pignatti (Team Owner):
“We can only be very happy with this weekend at Mugello. It not only brought us the great satisfaction of the first podium of the season for our #54 crew, but also demonstrated the great speed of the whole team. From the drivers to the mechanics to the engineers, everyone did a great job to enable us to take this first podium of the season. We do not want to be satisfied: after this first satisfaction, we will come back to Imola to give it our all!”
