Imperiale Racing in Barcelona for the final round of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS Sprint Cup

08.10.2024 – The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya will welcome Imperiale Racing for the final round of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS Sprint Cup. The Mirandola-based team will field a Lamborghini Huracàn GT3 EVO2 entrusted to Ugo de Wilde (BEL) and Dmitry Gvazava (KGZ).

The #85 Lamborghini crew scored a double podium at the first race of the championship, staged at the Misano circuit, and came close to another podium finish in races one at Hockenheim and Magny-Cours, the two circuits that hosted the second and third rounds of the championship. In the second race at the French circuit, the two battled for third place for a long time, highlighting the great speed shown in both German qualifying sessions and throughout the season. It was only a contact with another driver that forced them to give up a podium position at Hockenheim: that would have been their third podium finish of their European season.

Despite that disappointment, Gvazava and de Wilde are still in the running for victory in the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS Sprint Cup standings: the two are 14.5 points behind the leaders, but the Barcelona round will award as many as 35 points. This is why Imperiale Racing will attempt the feat, trying to conquer the continental title.

The 4,657 metre Barcelona-Catalunya Circuit, located in Montmelò, has hosted the Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix since 1991. The track is characterised by an alternation of driven sections and extremely fast ones. Among the first ones, the entire first sector should be mentioned, characterised by a medium-fast chicane and two long hairpins, while the central sector is significantly fast. The final section, consisting of two medium-slow hairpins, ends with two quite fast right-handers that lead back into the long start/finish straight.

Elena Pignatti (Team Owner):
‘We are ready for the finale of our season at the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS Sprint Cup! Gvazava and de Wilde have always shown great speed throughout this season, and only a few episodes have prevented them from collecting the results that the crew and the whole team would have deserved. We want to crown this season in the best possible way and, as always, we will give it our all out there: we will try every option to win the championship!”
